Homemade dog beds, treats, and toys are so easy to make.
We all know that it’s easier to buy a product that’s already done, but if you want a cheaper and more satisfying solution then homemade stuff will be a perfect solution.
Here are 12 easy homemade projects you can try and make at home for your dog.
1. Handmade dog crate
Do you have an old crib at home? And you know you won’t use it anymore!
You can make a dog crate out of the old crib.
Cut off the legs of the crib or make them shorter, add locks, and unscrew the unnecessary screws. Add a handle and make a roof. Fill the floor with blankets, pillows, or a mattress if you have one.

2. DIY dog bed from old/vintage suitcase
- 1 suitcase;
- 1 pillow.
It’s your choice if you want the bed to be on the ground or elevated.

3. Dog bed from your old sweater – DIY project
- Old sweater;
- Old/torn pillow which filling you can use or buy in a store soft polyester fibrefill, cotton or whatever you can find;
- Sewing machine or you can sew it by hand.
Close the openings of both sleeves and fill the sleeves with soft material.
Then sew the curved line so the upper part of the sweater is divided, and stuff in some more. And close the neck.
Next, stuff the rest of the sweater with filling and close the lover part of the sweater.
When that’s done, join both arms together. You can sow them or tie them together if you can.
It is almost done, but you can also leave it as it is, but attach the arms to the center part for a more secured bed.
And it’s done.
4. Make a tent for hot summer days
- 4 wood pieces 3’ x 11/2’’ ;
- 3 wooden rods;
- Fabric or old pillow case.
Mark 4’’ on one end and the same on the other end – drill. If you want you can spray paint the wood in your favorite color.
Connect the upper part with dowels – which will make the roof.
Glue your ends of the fabric to the two remaining rods, make sure that you put the fabric over your roof, and then connect the walls.

5. Outdoor dog washing station – homemade
If you have a garden this will be perfect for you.
Find a place in your garden that will be perfect for the shower. It would be better if you build it near a wooden wall or a fence.
Measure how big you want this station to be. You can mark the area with strings and stakes.
Dig down about 2-3 inches and add borders. You can use bricks for this one. Use gravel for the bottom and top it with river stones.
Add hucks to the wall so you can hand everything you need like a dog leash, towel, and shampoos.
And add a dog wash nozzle to your hose.
6. DIY Self-filling dog water bowl
- 2 wooden sticks;
- Plastic bottle.
You can style the wood however you like and glue them together to make a stand, let them dry. You can reinforce it with nails to make it stable.
Attach the bottle to the wood and place the dog bowl at the bottom.
Fill the bottle and place it at the stand.
Now you don’t have to worry about an empty dog water bowl.

7. DIY dog car seat cover project
- 4’ x 5’’ canvas drop cloth or any other water resistant fabric that you have;
- 8 Grommet kit;
- 4 Nylon strap;
- 4 Side-release buckles.
Mark the short side for 2 holes, approx., 8’’ and 15’’. Use a grommet kit to strengthen the holes.
Do it for each corner.
And add nylon strapping with side-release buckles to put around all 4 car seat headers.
Now you have a homemade car seat cover for your dog.
8. No-sew dog sweater
At first measure how long is your dog, so you know how much fabric you will need.
(measure the length from your dog’s collar to the start of your dog’s tail)
And then take your old sweat pants and cut one leg off. It’s better if the sweat pants have narrow ends so you can use the end as a collar.
Measure how far your dog’s legs are from the neck and cut the holes where the legs should go.
And you’re done!
P.S. you can also use an old sweater.
9. Small but effective DIY dog toy
If you have old tennis balls at home you can make an easy dog toy out of them.
It is simply just cut a small line in the ball so you can put treats in the ball. And it’s done.
It’s simple, but dogs really love it.

10. Homemade dog ice cream
- ¼ frozen strawberries;
- 2 TBSP of Greek yogurt.
Blend it all like a smoothie, then fill the mass into a mold. If you want you can top it with all-natural peanut butter and then put it in the freezer.
Hold it in the fridge for a few hours or a day and there you go. A healthy, cold, and homemade treat for your doggo.
No dog can resist these homemade dog treats.
11. DIY Dog cake
- ½ cup whole wheat flour;
- ¼ oats;
- 1 tsp. baking powder;
- ¼ unsweetened applesauce;
- 2 tbs pumpkin;
- 2 tbs vegetable oil;
- 1 large egg;
- 1 shredded carrot.
Mix it all together.
Then make it in a thick roll, or you can stuff it into an oiled can (the outcome has to look like a thick roll tower) and bake for 40 minutes at 350 degrees.
While the mixture is cooking, make the icing:
- ½ cup Greek yogurt;
- 2 TBSP ground peanuts.
When the cake is done, let it cool off completely.
Cut the cake in half, add icing between the layers and finish with icing all around the cake.
You can add dog biscuits, carrots, dog cookies, whatever your dog likes.
And this homemade dog cake with treats is ready!
12. Frozen chicken soup treats
- ½ cup of chicken stock;
- ½ Greek yogurt;
- 1 cup grated carrots;
- ½ cup frozen peas.
Mix it all, fill it into the molds, and put it in the fridge.
Let the soup freeze for a few hours and your dog will have a healthy, cold snack to chew.
